as of right now, I would say the ZVM is the best player out there, but that doesn't mean its the best player for everyone to buy.

i think the ZVM is the best also. But again, not for everybody. As I like the thinness, style, and ease of use that the ipod offers. The widescrean, WiFi, and looks of the Zune are also good. It all depends what you like, and right now, as a guy without a real DAP, I'd be more than happy with any of them.

a lot of people - even iPod owners - dislike using iTunes. Especially Windows PC-owners. iTunes loses a lot of it's ease of interaction with Windows, for some reason......

I can't say that I've experienced that at all. Even when I was using my family's slowly dying 400Mhz machine running Windows 2000. After we bought the dell in 2005 though, it was pretty much smooth sailing from there. Same goes for my Mom and Dad's nano.

I saw MusicMan post a few weeks ago on something else. A welcome addition to the forum he was to be sure. Tought me a lot about iPods long before I got one (but my daughter had one in 2002). Itunes is a breeze to use compared to MusicMatch (gack) and WinAmp wasn't much better back when I used it a lot. I did like the skins you could get for that though. The thing about those player was if you had a lot of music they wanted to show it all in one huge page and you had to scroll forever to get to the bottom.

Music Match, which I used until about a year ago when I got my iPod. I'd open it and there'd be the whole library in the screen below the player. You could collapse the songs on the albums, maybe the albums of the artists to make it compact, but you couldn't search by artists or album or genre like you can with iTunes. I really only used WinAmp as an early converter of Napster downloaded mp3s to wave so I could burn them to CD.
