Philips today announced two new hard drive-based MP3 players: the $299 30GB GoGear HDD6330 and the $199 6GB GoGear HDD1630. Both players are sleekly designed with glossy black bodies, photo-friendly color screens, and blue-backlit touch-sensitive interfaces. They are fully decked out with features, including an FM tuner, voice recording, JPEG viewing with thumbnail previews, and compatibility with MP3 as well as both purchased and subscription-based WMA files. The 30GB HDD6330 also boasts line-in recording, up to 196Kbps WAV. The overall packages look solid, especially with Philips's aggressive pricing scheme, but we'll have to wait and see if the company's past interface and performance problems have been addressed with these new entries.

Phillips is coming out with 4 new players in September and October. 30 and 6 gig HD players with color screens (30 gb model in picture), each about the same size as an iPod and an iPod mini, and 2 round-shaped players made for use in the gym, a 4 gig model and a 512 mb model. The 30gb player looks nice and is gonna cost 300, which is good for 30 gigs, a color screen, and other features. The 6 gb player will cost 200, which is also a good price. The other 2 players are like the old Nike/Phillips round flash players, but look pretty cool too. Both also have some extra features useful when in the gym.

I think these new players are pretty nice looking and if they don't have too many problems/come with horrible software, then they might appeal to some people.

I like the idea of adding color to the screens
Those are some of the best looking players I've ever seen.

He owns an ipod.....personally, I think they look kinda ugly. The first one is just sorta goofy, like it should be in a 90's rap music video...

Actually, if you look around the site, many people dont have Dell DJ's. Many people have iPods, maybe a Creative player, I know someone has a Cowon x5 here. Some people might not have a DJ at all.

i think they are very sexy (the philips players that is) the screens themselves could be bigger but overall nice looking.

I think they look smaller than they are. Cnet had the specs for these players and for the 30 gb player, Cnet said it had a 2 inch screen, which isn't that small.

I bought it at the weekend. Seems really nice. I would like to use musicmatch with it but seems like that portable service is only for the DJ. Currently using Yahoo Unlimited with it fine.
I have been debating returning it and getting a DJ instead......went to the Dell site tonight and the 20 gig DJ is no longer there to buy.......
New ones on the way shortly then?

Damn..... Those look slick. however, the new 30gb iPod is also 300.... I would go for the iPod with a 25% bigger screen and video playback.

Orrrrrrrrr you could get a 40 gb Gigabeat for $300. I tell ya, it's beautifuuukkkkk. Err, fanboyism aside, yea.

Hi MystkLp....
Sorry - just back to the forum this evening. Have decided to go for a DJ instead of the philips.....too slick on the controls...I prefer actual buttons and it also gets way too many fingerprints on the unit. I don't know if I can add photos with my small number of posts? There are lots of photos on the dapreview.net site if you haven't seen them.
Managed to get a pocket dj for $107 after some coupons and getting in on MM for 1 year at $60 (with the $50 rebate to come) seemed a lot better than the $299+tax+$60 I would have paid for the Philips route.
I expect MM to double their rates like Yahoo Unlimited shortly now too.
The overall costs of ownership for 1 year is great with Dell.....and they give out coupons like nuts sometimes :)

at best buy just now i saw the 30 gig phillips player. The screen did look small, and the entire player looked pretty weird, but that was only (i hope) because it wouldn't turn on. (When it is not on, you can not see any buttons whatsoever) It just looked like a black rectangle with a screen. lots of fingerprints show too.
