Argh, just when I get my player a few months later, Toshiba announces a new one. This is a new design and it's absolutely sexy, too. Comes with better software, hopefully and is smaller as well. Fixed a few issues on the F series, I believe and is just waiting to be groped by hands everywhere.

Yeah I saw this yesterday, it looks a lot nicer than the F series, just a little bit cleaner looking. And they imporved on the touch pad, because the F series' touch pad was sort of lower that the surface of the player, so that was a pain, but the X series' touch pad seems to be flush with the surface at at least slightly raised

Actually, I like how the pad is indented on the F series. Because when I reach in or accidentally brush the player too hard, it switches songs or something. If this was level on the player, I could see it being a tiny bit of a nuisance. I really do like the design of it, but I'm a little disappointed that the buttons on the side are just metal now. I like how my Gigabeat glows bright blue on the sides when you activate it. Otherwise, it just looks really classy.

So what was wrong with the previous software? What, exactly, did they fix?

I'm kind of intrested in one. How is the sound quality?

I've heard it has good sound quality. Now that it's so much smaller, if it came as a 10 gig player, I would really want one. Perfect size for my music and pics, and the screens a little bigger than the F series too.

The sound quality is excellent. It's got a decent number of sound settings, and yea, it just plain sounds great. People complain about hissing or popping on their songs, but they don't realize that it's the quality of the song that's causing it. So yeah, really good sound....too tired to use you know, more descriptive words.

The problem with the software is that it can be unbearably slow. If you want to synchronize a lot of your songs onto the player, the Gigabeat room software can lock up for a few minutes. It refreshes the library after every transfer, and that can take a few minutes too, if you just added a lot of songs. It's prone to crashing when you inundate the software with a huge selection of songs. But yea, when it does work, it's fine. It's simple and easy to follow. It's just the execution of the program is not all it can be.

The version of Gigabeat room that comes with the X30 will 3.0, so hopefully there will be significant changes. Otherwise, yeah, I'm still happy with my Gigabeat right now. The screen difference is about .2", so I'm not too bitter over that. I just like the new cradle, haha. But yeah, there's nothing really wrong with the F series, either. If you like it, you should totally get one.

Ahh, and they just recently debuted the X20 and X60...just great.

The X20 is priced at around 23,000 yen or so, and the X60 priced at 45,000 yen, I think.
So around 200 and 400 USD, approximately. That's just too much. I may have to import them for that much. I think the prices are accurate, but I may be wrong on them, if anything, that's around the price anyway.

Does it play video or pics? I couldn't find anything on that. The store near me sells some.

No, videos. There's a possibility it could with future firmware, but at the moment, no videos. Pics are viewable, yes. Why else would they have such a beautiful screen?

X20 and X60 is released on Nov. 17th.

Where are you, merouby?

I'm in Dallas. It looks nicer in real life. The only thing is the price (It was appx. the same for the iPod for the 20GB vs the iPod's 30GB - they only had the iPod photo at the time). The lady behind the counter said that more people buy the iPods they sell over it (no suprise here), but I was still left impressed w/ this DAP. The only other DAP that has impressed me too was the Sony. If only they lowered the price, added some color (just for sales), and added AAC or WMA functionality). Oh well. Seems Toshiba's on the right track here. Wake up Sony!!

I've been waiting to see this player in real life. I think if they fixed up the software, people would like it more. I've always wanted to try Toshiba's touch pad thing. I'm not stupid, so I think I'd be able to figure all the functions of it out.
