Here is another video player competing with Apple. The Microtek MH-210. Anybody know anything about it?

It only supports 3gp for video (whatever that is). I guess it's not bad, since its $100 less than the iPod, and the only major difference is it only has 20GB instead of 30.

Very interesting
* smaller screen than iPod
* smaller-capacity hard drive
* less battery life than iPod
* SNR is noticebly worse (80db or better) than iPod
* Expect the supplied power-adapter, line cable, etc to be the only stuff you can get with it, since it'll probably support worse-than-DellDJ 3rd party support
However it's $229 (w/ $30 mail in rebate = $199) versus the $269 for the iPod in my local circular. So is the $70 savings really worth it?? Is the user interface good? Is the quality good enough to last at least a year?
Having said that, it may prove quite popular. Time will tell.

It's a good deal...but I'm not sure if I'd trust the quality of it. Who the hell is microtek?

I don't know what you're looking at, but all my catalogs say the iPod 30gb costs $299...not $269.

i think it looks pretty nice, and if it has good quality, than it could be a good alternative.

no i didn't?
3gp is a mobile phone video standard. It's used on the 3g networks over in Europe and Asia. Over there, they've progressed far more in video conferencing over cells and whatnot. It's just another video format to add to the list. It's decent, better viewed with smaller screens and whatnot. But, to watch stuff, I'm assuming you're gonna have to convert from .avi or whatever to .3gp. Dunno if that's worth it.
