iPod faithful squirming?
I have been reading iPod and Apple worshipping sites recently to see them squirm. We all know that Dell does not blaze the trail with new technology, only following up with more affordable pricing. That said, I have noticed many iPod owners squirming and complaining because their Ebay resale value is likely to plummet. I am not saying the Dell DJ is better than the iPod, but only an AFFORDABLE alternate.

Most recently I found a funny little blog that is already calling the DJ a dud. Huh, you have seen one picture and already this guy believes it is, "an inferior knock-off". Never holding one in his hand, it is a dud. Relying on only a picture he says this, "Like its oddly bulbous form factor and front face, which strikes me as a weak attempt at making it seem smaller than it really is. (Dell hasn’t released its dimensions, but I’m guessing it’s bigger than the iPod in all three dimensions, most especially depth.) "

What is really laughable is that nobody is whining about the affordable 20GB solutions from other companies. The iPod appears to be a great unit, but aside from the nice scroll wheel, there is nothing there that warrants the price over equally comparable units.

It's strange but until I found this site most of the coverage I saw for the DJ was on mac sites.
While the vast majority of the comments were the same mindless bashing, you could almost sense an underlying current of fear. You are right when you point out that other than the DJ I've yet to see another player mentioned on these mac sites.

check out Mac Rumours (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/09/20030925131305.shtml)

They have a link to a Dell Page with some Rudimentary Specs

If your argue is pro-mac I find it hard that these arguments will be based in logic. Macs make cute toys but for real computers Linux and M$ are the only real choices 8^)

P.S.
I am aware of the supercomputer just built by Virginia Tech, I still stand by the above statement

It's all in fun, isn't it ;)

P.S.

I would feel wrong in not admitting that I am warming to the idea of an apple on my network but it will take a few years, and yes Panther sounds really cool.

You prove you have no clue about computers. Unlike windows, the MacOS is built on UNIX. Anyone who knows anyting about computers will tell you there is nothing stronger than the FreeBSD core that Mac OS X is built upon. For your own sake, please keep such comments to yourself or you'll continue to look like a fool.

I may have to put you on ignore because you are so ignorant with you comments.

I have nothing to say to defend an UNIX system with a great GUI. I can run any X Windows program on my OS X. Can you?

There are two people in the world, educated and uneducated. You choose.

Make a valid point and I'll agree with it. Be and idiot and I'll call you on it.

Ahhh cagey that was fun, sadly though I never mentioned OS X; just macs in general; and yes I know all about that kernel.
I did however mention Linux as a viable OS, which as we all know is a flavor of Unix. I am actually an IT guy with over 3 years experience and I am also studying for my master's in Information Security, so spare me the, "you are ignorant about computers garbage" cause I'm not.

I probably wouldn't of said anything but you specifically said not to bash macs and the pressure was too great ;)

Lighten up, macs always draw the ire of techies that's just the way it goes

cageyjames

Please, you are not a techie if you think the mac is a toy. Keep digging yourself a hole.

3 years does not make an IT guy. You are ignorant and a fool. I was using computers before you were even born. I see your type push their resumes on my desk every day and I do the same thing with your posts, push it in the trash.

How am I ignorant? I haven't called you a single name, yet you continue to insult (repeatedly) b/c I don't have a favorable opinion of macs? Spare me, you are a moderator and should carry yourself as such.

How could anyone honestly see the Mac as a viable os when you cannot even right click (the concept is maddening) and the file structure is so haphazard it boggles the mind.

I have grown tired of your insults and lack of facts. Bottom line I don't like macs and you do. One day I might change my opinion; but it won't be today and it probably won't be tomorrow.

I'm only a moderator here because Chris made me one. I never asked. I don't consider myself one here.

The reason you don't like macs is because you can't right click? You have got to be kidding me! You can plug any two or three button mouse and you'll get a right click out of the box. Or hold down the control button and you'll get the menu.

The file structure is fine. What do you have against BSD? Its a wonderful file structure. Hell Linux is very similar. Its windows that has the horrible structure.

I really don't care if you like macs or not. Just get your facts straight.

Let's just agree to disagree, but please realize there was nothing wrong with any of my arguments since most are opinion based. Also as of September 2002 M$ accounted for 97.46% of all global OS while Mac is 1.4 http://cyberatlas.internet.com/big_picture...2205811,00.html (http://cyberatlas.internet.com/big_picture/applications/article/0,,1301_2205811,00.html) so I can't be the only one that feels this way. Have a good day

Also what I said pertains to macs pre-OSX (I mentioned that earlier).

In that case I'll close the tread while I still have moderator rights.

Come on Folks!!!
Let's at least have a little bit of peacfull coexistence. This little Spat does not look good for a website ready to announce something. There will be more than just our little group looking at this.
It is great that you each have your separate opinions. That is what make for a well rounded group. But try to end it! Please!!
